Single and Multiple Dental Implants

Replace single or multiple missing teeth safely and predictably. Dental implants are small titanium screws that can be gently placed into your jaw bone which act as a foundation to which a prosthetic tooth can be attached. Multiple or single tooth implant supported crowns mimic your natural teeth in both appearance and function to solve a variety of dental problems.

What are dental implant restorations?

Dental implant restorations are ‘appliances’ comprising three distinct parts that combine to create an effective tooth replacement. Each implant restoration begins with a screw component (post), which is inserted securely into the jaw bone, and acts as an artificial root or foundation for the crown or bridge. Attached to the implant screw is an abutment, or metal connecting piece that protrudes through the gum, onto which a dental crown or bridge, the third part (if multiple screws have been placed) can be placed. Collectively these pieces form a replacement tooth that is custom-made to match the appearance and functionality of natural teeth.

Benefits of dental implants

Dental implants are a versatile solution to replace missing teeth in your mouth, able to support a single replacement tooth or multiple missing teeth where necessary. A single tooth replacement can be completed with one implant post and crown, while multiple teeth can be effectively replaced by attaching a dental bridge or set of adjoining prosthetic teeth to a minimum of two implant posts. For more significant teeth replacements and replacement of all teeth in the mouth you may need to consider All On Implants treatment.

The benefits of dental implants include:

  • Stability: Each implant is only placed into an area of the jaw that has enough bone volume to support it, meaning your implant will be stable and secure, and will support normal biting pressures.
  • Aesthetic Consistency: Implants are crafted to match the colour of your surrounding teeth and to have a seamless fit, making them relatively indistinguishable from natural teeth.
  • Longevity: Implants are made from titanium and titanium alloys, making them compatible with the body. When correctly placed and maintained, they will last for decades, in turn ensuring they are a cost-effective solution for patients wanting a permanent fixed solution over a long period of time.

Getting dental implants

The success rate of dental implant procedures is extremely high, but patients seeking to have an implant placed must first pass a medical review and have enough bone in their jaw to support the implant post. We also recommend that implants only be placed in patients who are at least 18 years old. Jaw growth continues into the early twenties and placement of dental implants into growing patients may need to have a new restoration placed if adjacent teeth move and the dental appearance is affected.

Patients with gum disease or tooth decay are not ideal candidates for an implant. These oral diseases need to be treated prior to a dental implant being placed to ensure uneventful healing and long term success.

Our implant process

Our team begins by assessing your oral health and bone volume, examining whether you have enough bone in your jaw to support a dental implant in the best possible position for the replacement tooth/teeth. In most cases, dental implant treatment occurs under local anaesthetic by safely placing the screw-like post into the jaw bone in a sterile environment. The area is then allowed to heal and natural bone integrates with the implant surface securing it in place. This process takes 3 to 6 months, during which time you may be able to wear a temporary restoration to protect the area.

Once the implant site has fully healed and the implant has integrated with the surrounding bone, a custom-made dental crown or bridge is manufactured and affixed to the implant(s).The result is a long term replacement tooth or set of teeth that feel comfortable, look natural and function just like your natural teeth.
