Individualised Porcelain Veneers For An Ideal Smile
Custom Manufactured Porcelain Veneers are very thin pieces of porcelain that can be used to improve the appearance of damaged, stained, cracked, chipped, crooked and unsightly teeth. The particular tooth / teeth to be treated are prepared by the dentist and a tooth and jaw impression is taken. The impressions or models of the prepared teeth are then sent to the dental laboratory where the specialist dental ceramist custom fabricates the veneers. Provisional veneers are then fabricated by the dentist and temporarily cemented to the prepared teeth to be worn until the porcelain veneers are ready. Occassionally it is necessary for the patient to visit the dental laboratory so that the dental ceramist can observe other important patient features such as skin tone, eye colour, face and body shape etc. all important factors that must be taken into consideration when designing and fabricating the veneers.
When the patient returns to the dental clinic, the provisional veneers are removed, the teeth cleaned up and the porcelain veneer(s) tried in. If both the dentist and patient are satisfied with the result, the porcelain veneers are bonded to the front surface of the tooth using special porcelain veneer bonding agensts and cements. Excess bonding material is cleaned away and the bite checked. It may be necessary to perform a few minor adjustments to the occlusion to reduce pressure from opposing teeth and ‘even out’ the bite. The great thing about porcelain veneers is that they can be made to look perfectly natural and are unlikely to stain or discolour like a natural tooth. If well cared for, porcelain veneers can last a lifetime.
It is important when assessing a tooth for a Veneer, enough enamel exists on the tooth surface. Natural tooth enamel is essential for a strong and reliable bond.
